Masdar City

We received a tour of Masdar City yesterday. It’s a city known for its sustainable designs. Some interesting things I noticed: They placed the buildings close together in order to maximize shade. They also have this wind tower designed to catch the wind and direct it into the streets so people can have a nice cool environment as well. This creates a vortex, capturing the wind to keep a cool breeze and keep the people from over heating. Lastly, at one point the tour guid told us to look out into the distance, everyone just thought they were looking at a lake, but in fact it was a giant solar farm. A giant field filled with solar panels with the ability to power hundreds of homes in the city!– Joande Hernandez
